Many fit women find the pregnancy videos on the market much too easy. The following videos are not designed as pregnancy workouts, but Video Fitness readers have found them to be easily modified for pregnancy. Each video title links to consumer reviews of the video.
Step Aerobics
Fitness Formula with Kari Anderson
Best for experienced exercisers who know their way around a step bench, this video will take you from early pregnancy up to delivery. The left side of the room does more challenging variations, the right side stays totally low impact. Skip the excellent ab section after the first trimester.
Step Reebok - the Video with Gin Miller
Step fans who want to take it a little easier can do so safely with the original Step Reebok workout, with its careful form pointers.
Also consider doing your favorite step videos with one or two risers removed to reduce the intensity.
Floor/Low Impact Aerobics
A New You with Kari Anderson and Linda Evans
Because this is a beginner level workout, few or no modifications are needed for pregnancy if you're already participating in a regular exercise program. There are three sections, so you needn't do all three if you're feeling too tired.
Your Personal Best with Karen Voight and Elle MacPherson
This circuit workout alternates sports-oriented cardio segments with light weight training. The soundtrack is terrific, as is the Hawaiian beach setting. Skip or modify the abdominal section after the first trimester.
March to Fitness with Kathy Smith
A very short, low impact workout designed for novice exercisers that also works great for pregnant women on those days when you're very tired, but just want to do something active.
Strong and Smooth Moves with Karen Voight
In one hour you get a half hour low-impact floor workout plus a half hour of not-to-strenuous toning with a body bar or light weights. Some supine toning work (such as ab work) will need to be modified after the first trimester, but other than that, this is a great workout for fit exercisers who need to take the intensity down a notch while pregnant.
Charlene Prickett It Figures shows
Some love Charlene's chattiness, others don't, but the It Figures tapes feature a pregnant background exerciser who shows appropriate modifications.
Weight Training
Tone it Up with Kari Anderson
This choreographed strength workout uses a Dynaband for resistance rather than free weights.
The FIRM
Readers found the following FIRM videos the easiest to modify for pregnancy. Note that almost all of the abdominal exercises found in these videos must be modified after the first trimester:
- Firm Basics Sculpting with Weights
- Firm Vol. 6
- Firm Prime Power Series
- Firm Not So Tough Aerobics
- Firm Total Body Maximum Body Sculpting (aka Tri Trainer All Weights)

Stretch/Flexibility/Yoga
Angles, Lines, and Curves, by Kari Anderson
A wonderful, relaxing workout that improves flexibility and core strength. Very few modifications are necessary for pregnancy, though some of the balancing moves will be more difficult as your center of gravity changes.
