Fante Yaa's Introduction
January, 2005
My background is completely sedentary. There were certain things that I loved to do, such as roller skating and volleyball, but regular physical activity was never the norm.
A couple of years ago I moved into an apartment that was right across the street from a track. I could literally walk out my front door and be exercising in less than 30 seconds! It was great - I bought a pedometer and I was on my way.
Well, when I moved walking was more conspicuous and far less convenient. I slacked off until I happened to see an infomercial for Leslie Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds for Abs. Walking, can do. Abs, need work. The first and last time I ordered from an infomercial but ultimately my wisest buy ever.
I loved it and felt a real sense of accomplishment. At first the tapes were so tough, but I progressed quickly through the one to three mile workouts by following a rotation I found online. And I lost more than 40 pounds doing those tapes alone.
When I was ready to branch out, I tried a couple of Leslie's additional workouts and two Firm tapes. I found VideoFitness and realized that there were so many workouts that were now doable for me with my increased cardio capacity. I was finally able to work out on the elliptical trainer, climb stairs with ease, jog, and do Taebo! I achieved the milestone of 50 pounds lost!
Soon I was a full-fledged vidiot with an impressive collection of workouts and equipment. Then I backslid. Due to a combination of stressful events, I am almost completely back where I started. Except for the knowledge that I can do this, I have done it before, and I love exercise.
I have always escaped the health problems associated with obesity. Now, with this regain of weight, I have Stage 1 hypertension and blood sugar that is at the very top of normal. It has also had a negative impact upon my mood. Therefore, I am extremely motivated to get back my achievements, progress beyond my expectations, and make these changes permanent. I am also encouraged by a fiance who sincerely cares for me and my health who also inspires me with his ital (natural) lifestyle. We would like to start a family as soon as possible and I know that making these changes can be essential to a healthy pregnancy and child.
My goals for this month are to just do what I want while regaining my cardio capacity. I have so many workouts and rotations that I believe it has been holding me back. Also, I finally realized on my first journey to fitness that unless I actually feel myself putting forth effort, so much that it is a bit of strain or discomfort, I am not making gains.
So this is my loose plan (not rotation) of what I will be doing this month:
- Walking my dog
- Walks at lunch
- Lateral Thigh Trainer
- Roller skating
- Gaiam Get Moving
- Core Secrets
- Meditation & Walking Meditation
and anything else from my collection that I fancy (step, Taebo, yoga) and feel up to.
